All regional and international patients, please follow the process listed below:
1) Contact Us
Please complete the
Patient Application Form and create a therapy case.
You will receive an email confirming your user details, follow the link in the email and complete the extended medical form providing further details on your medical condition.
A Global Biohealth Solutions Personal Case manager (PCM) will contact you to discuss your case in more detail. You will then be required to complete the comprehensive Medical Questionnaire and send us all of your relevant medical history / reports (not older than three months).
Your medical records will be forwarded on to the Medical Review Board.
2) Review Your Case
Your case will be reviewed by the Medical Review Board. You will be notified of the Medical Review Board’s opinion via email, if you have been accepted for treatment; your PCM will call you to discuss the next steps and co-ordinate your travel arrangements.
3) Confirm Your Treatment
GBS will send you a proposal describing your Therapy Package, along with your travel itinerary (flights will be not included). Your PCM will call you to discuss the package and get your feedback. Once you have confirmed acceptance of the package, a therapy date is booked. Payment is required one month prior to the therapy date. Your PCM will be in continued contact with you prior to your departure.
4) Arrival in Mauritius (Only Applicable to International Patients)
You will be met at the airport by the local PCM and transferred to your hotel.
5) Transfer to the Hospital (Only Applicable to International Patients)
In general, the following day you will be accompanied by the PCM and transferred from your hotel to the hospital.
6) Arrival at the Hospital and Registration
When you arrive at the hospital, you will be greeted by the hospital’s Patient Liaison Officer and you will be escorted to your room. For your comfort and ease, registration will be completed in your room.
7) Induction by Patient Liaison Officer and Nursing Assistant
After registration the Patient Liaison Officer along with a nursing assistant will provide a brief on the hospital facilities and services including the following;
- Lounge and cafeteria services – opening hours
- Laundry services
- Housekeeping services
- Dieticians
8) Pre-anesthetic Consultation
The anesthesiologist will meet with you prior to the therapy. The timing of the pre-anesthetic consultation depends on the pre-morbid conditions of the patient.
9) Meeting with the Doctor
The treating doctor will meet with you to discuss your treatment plan and explain in detail the required pre treatment medical tests. The doctor will obtain the Informed Consent Form from you.
10) Pre Treatment Medical Tests
After your tests, your specimens will be sent to the laboratory for testing, and you will be transferred to the radiology department for a MRI, X-Ray, CT scan or angiogram (depending on your condition).
11) Surgical Procedure in the Operating Theater
- You will be transferred from your room to the operating theatre.
- The anesthesiologist will administer the required sedation or anesthesia.
- The treating doctor will start preparing the required aspiration tools and kits according to the therapy protocol.
- The doctor will start bone marrow aspiration procedure on patient.
- Bone marrow will be processed in the centrifuge to isolate the mononucleated cells.
- The mononucleated cells will be removed from the separation kit and prepared for administration back to patient.
- You will be transferred to the recovery room after the completion of the procedure.
- After recovery, you will be transferred to your room.
- The doctor will visit you in the room to check your status.
12) Discharge
The standard hospital discharge policy will be followed and you will be given a fit to fly certificate after discharge.
Additional Information
Billing
The cost of treatment is payable in full prior to your arrival. After being informed of patient discharge, the hospital will issue you an invoice for any additional service or extended hospital stay which is not included in your therapy package. You will be required to settle your account at the time of discharge.
Transfer to Your Hotel (Only Applicable to International Patients)
The PCM will meet you at the hospital and travel with you during your transfer back to your hotel. The PCM will be available to assist you during the rest of your stay and will co-ordinate your transfer to the airport.
Follow Up
GBS will be in contact with you once you arrive home to monitor your progress after the treatment. Scheduled follow up calls and questionnaires will be completed after treatment. The follow up schedule will depend on the condition and treatment.
